Department of Defense Honors State Representative David Day

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Department of Defense has recognized State Representative David Day (R-Dixon) for his work benefittingMissouri service members and their families. Robert L. Gordon, III, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy presented Day with the certificate.  According to Day, supporting Missouri’s military families is something he is proud to do.
“As an army veteran, I am proud to support and represent Missouri’s service men and women in Jefferson City,” said Day. “Often the families are forgotten as their loved ones protect and serve our country; I am dedicated to easing the burden on military families as their loved ones fight to protect our country.”
The award recognizes Day for his sponsorship and passage of House Bill 136, which aims to help military families by allowing military spouses to qualify for temporary professional licenses when coming to Missouri and also allowing military spouses to receive unemployment benefits if they leave their employment because their spouse is transferring to another duty station.  Built in are protections for Missouri businesses so they are not charged with those unemployment benefits.
HB 136 awaits the Governor’s signature before becoming law.
